Executive in Residence
Geoff Nyheim brings to students, clients, and business partners more than 30 years of success in the information technology industry and a long-evidenced passion for developing people and organizations. Nyheim is a full-time faculty member at DePaul University’s Driehaus College of Business and Kellstadt Graduate School of Business in an Executive-in-Residence role while also serving as Director of Business Development for DePaul’s Center for Sales Leadership. Additionally, Nyheim serves as board member for Orion Systems Integrators, mentors extensively across a diverse group of business leaders, and consults executives in the areas of strategy, marketing, and sales.
At DePaul, Geoff teaches Principles of Marketing, Marketing Management, Analytical Sales, and Sales Strategy & Technology. He focuses student collaboration and outcomes on shared learning of practical knowledge, application of industry best practices, external relationship network building, and attitudinal preparation for success in internship and career roles. In his first full academic year of teaching, Nyheim was recognized with the Lawrence W Ryan Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award and the Driehaus Teaching Award.
Through the DePaul Alumni Sharing Knowledge (ASK) network, Kellstadt Career Center, Center for Sales Leadership workshops, and 1:1 mentoring, Nyheim dedicates hundreds of hours each academic year to leading students and business partners through the career planning and recruiting life-cycle. Geoff serves as faculty advisor to the Pi Sigma Epsilon sales and marketing professional organization and was selected by DePaul’s Delta Sigma Pi as the co-ed business fraternity’s first ever faculty initiate.
Geoff spent 22 years at Microsoft ending 2013. Most recently, he served as Vice-President of WW Corporate Accounts and Partner Sales responsible for leading the people and the performance of this $11 billion enterprise segment of 75,000 organizations. In this Redmond, WA based role, Geoff led global strategy, execution, operations and a multi-thousand seller field community as well as Microsoft’s $30 billion Large Account Reseller program and integrated co-selling with the company’s top 2,000 managed Solutions Partners.
Nyheim was previously responsible for Microsoft’s global Office 365 sales and channel functions in the enterprise customer segment. Prior to that, he spent nine years leading field the sales, channel, marketing, services, and community organization from Chicago in the roles of Midwest GM and then Vice-President for the multi-billion dollar U.S. Central Region Enterprise business. Earlier HQ roles included GM of Microsoft’s Global Partners leading an organization responsible for worldwide alliances with OEMs, ISVs, systems integrators, and outsourcers. Nyheim personally led Microsoft’s billion-dollar alliance with Accenture, including start-up of the joint venture Avanade. Before this post, Geoff held a number of field sales management positions in the Silicon Valley and central U.S. markets.
Before joining Microsoft, Geoff spent eight years in San Francisco Bay Area based sales positions at Hewlett-Packard and Unisys where he received numerous awards for business performance.
Nyheim holds a BA in Political Economy from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business. A native Californian, Nyheim now lives in Hinsdale, IL and Holland, MI with his wife Nancy. The Nyheim’s are proud parents of three adult daughters.
